Iceland Travel Guide

by Ontravlex

It is easy to understand why Iceland is such a popular tourist destination, with its beautiful geysers, rocky volcanoes, and glittering waterfalls. In addition to its beautiful natural surroundings, the remote island has a number of charming towns and villages, as well as the cool capital city of Reykjavik.

Located between Greenland and the Faroe Islands and more than 750 kilometres from both Norway and the United Kingdom, Iceland is encircled by the frigid seas of the North Atlantic. There are mountains, glaciers, and lava fields scattered throughout the infinite tundra. The area is geologically and volcanically active. Numerous windswept beaches and rocks surround its coastline, and beautiful fjords dot its extensive shoreline.

Two-thirds of Iceland’s inhabitants make their home in the country’s noteworthy capital city of Reykjavik. It’s the island’s cultural epicentre, with a charming and colourful old town and an unexpected quality in its music, theatre, and nightlife. The world-famous Blue Lagoon is conveniently located to the southwest of the city, making it an attractive day-trip option.

Most visitors spend their first day in Iceland in Reykjavik, seeing the attractions before heading out to tour the Golden Circle, a route that takes them to the national parks of Thingvellir and Gullfoss. The first is a beautiful waterfall, and the second has many interesting geological features, such as volcanic fissures, lakes, river basins, and historic monuments.

Those with more time on their hands might enjoy a trip around the island’s lovely ring road. The stunning Seljalandfoss and Skogafoss waterfalls, the stunning black sands of Reynisfjara Beach, and the amazing Crystal Caves of the Vatnajokull Glacier are just some of the attractions you’ll see along the way.

Aside from the many wonderful yet desolate landscapes accessible by car, there is also the opportunity to climb towering volcanoes, view geysers and glaciers, and embark on unforgettable sightseeing cruises and whale watching trips along its coast, where whales, dolphins, and seals are frequently spotted.
