Portugal Travel Guide

by Ontravlex

Portugal, a country that made significant contributions to the New World Discovery Age, is now a land of discovery in its own right, with dramatic scenery that reveals mediaeval castles, world-class golf courses, golden-sand beaches, cobblestone villages dominated by beautiful churches, and captivating cities pulsing with rich culture, fabulous food, and bustling nightlife. Portugal, a country in southeastern Europe on the western coast of the Iberian Peninsula, has an enviable climate, low prices for tourists, and a wealth of fascinating sites, making it one of the continent’s most popular tourist destinations.

Lisbon, Portugal’s capital, is a must-see because of its stunning mediaeval architecture, Europe’s biggest aquarium, delectable food, and unique fado music. The city of Porto, Portugal, is well known for its port wine. Aveiro’s scenic canals and bridges draw comparisons to Venice, while Obidos’s romantic charm and the nearby Praia D’el Rey golf complex make it a favourite tourist destination. Sintra features a spectacular castle, Pena’s Palace, while both Coimbra and Evora shelter troves of ancient artefacts.

From the lush mountains and vineyards of the north to the flat countryside and ancient towns in the centre to the glitzy beaches of the Algarve in the south, Portugal’s landscape is as diverse as the country itself. The Azores and Madeira archipelagos, both located in the Atlantic Ocean and both belonging to Portugal, are renowned for their beautiful landscapes and flower gardens.
