6 tips to getting a good night’s sleep on a long haul flight

by ontravelx

Short-haul flights are convenient since you can just sip coffee and snack on a pastry before taking off again.

However, many of us find it difficult to fall asleep in an economy seat during a lengthy flight. Unfortunately, the best defense against jet lag is a good night’s sleep, and that’s not always possible.

Here are six tips to help you get the most out of your night’s sleep:

Clothing

Put on something appropriate. Wearing flexible, comfortable layers allows you to adjust your temperature to the cabin environment as needed.

Seating

Find a spot beside the window where you can close the blind and lean against the window for support. There is a risk of getting into trouble if you drop down on a stranger’s shoulder.

Relaxation

Herbal sleep aids are available and can put you to sleep considerably more effectively than alcohol.

Noise

Even if there is entertainment on board, you can’t be sure that it will be to your liking; therefore, it’s a good idea to carry your own headphones and MP3 player to listen to your own music as you relax and avoid being disturbed by other passengers. Alternatively, noise-canceling headphones can be used to achieve complete silence.

Food & Drink

Get enough water and a good meal so that you’re not hungry and can sleep well.

Pillow

Purchase a comfortable cushion for your trips. The typical doughnut pillows work OK, but when your muscles relax, you may find yourself leaning forward or to the side and waking up many times.

We wish you a safe trip and a good night’s sleep.
